Accessibility

Who can join this

The vessel and its shore excursions require a moderate level of mobility. Embarkation and disembarkation use a gangway with steps and may be uneven; some docks have stairs or short ramps. On board, public spaces and cabins are on multiple decks; many Nile cruisers do not have elevators between all decks and cabin doorways may be narrower than standard wheelchair widths. Shore excursions include walking on uneven ancient stone, cobblestones, and river banks, and some temples have multiple steps. If you use a wheelchair, mobility scooter, or have restricted mobility, contact us before booking so we can assess suitability, advise which cabins and vessel classes are most accessible, and arrange extra assistance where possible. We arrange transfers and local assistance, but we cannot guarantee full step-free access at every landing stage or tomb entrance.

Before you go

What to pack & wear

What to bring

  • Valid passport and a photocopy
  • Sunhat and high-SPF sunscreen
  • Comfortable walking shoes with grip
  • Lightweight daypack and refillable water bottle
  • Small torch or headlamp for tomb interiors
  • Copy of travel insurance and emergency contacts
  • Medication, seasickness tablets if prone to motion

What to wear

  • Lightweight, loose-fitting clothing for daytime heat
  • Long sleeves and trousers or skirts for sun and temples
  • Covered shoulders and knees for mosques and some temples
  • A warm layer for cool evenings on the Nile
  • Comfortable closed shoes for archaeological sites

Children & families

Children 0–5.99 years travel free. Children 6–11.99 years pay 50% of the adult fare. Children 12 years and older pay the full adult fare. Children must share a cabin with their parents, maximum one child per cabin; two or more children require their own cabin. Strollers can be used on board but may be impractical on some landings and in crowded temples; high chairs and baby equipment are limited on most vessels, so request these in advance and we will do our best to arrange them.

Responsible travel

How we travel here

We arrange the vessel and shore excursions with local suppliers and licensed Egyptologists based in Luxor and Aswan. Transfers between harbour and sites use air-conditioned coaches provided by local transport partners to reduce vehicle changeovers. On board, linens and towels are laundered on the vessel to centralize water and energy use; many of our partnered cruisers use refillable water dispensers and replace single-use plastics with reusable alternatives. Excursion fees and site ticket revenue go directly to the Egyptian sites and their staff, and we encourage passengers to buy crafts from community vendors in Luxor and Aswan. We work with suppliers who employ local crew and guides, which helps keep economic benefit in the region. If you have specific sustainability priorities, tell us and we will try to match the vessel and excursion style to them.

Blue Shadow Nile Cruise

The Blue Shadow Nile Cruise sails between Luxor and Aswan with guided visits to Karnak, the Valley of the Kings, Philae, Edfu and Kom Ombo. We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator; our Egyptologists lead all guided excursions and explain the archaeology at each site. Onboard life alternates deck-side Nile views with full-board dining, short talks and an evening folkloric show. We do not run large-group bus tours, our sailings are restricted to small groups of no more than eight guests. Compared with mass-market coach tours, the cruise allows more time at Edfu and Kom Ombo to explore on foot. Optional excursions, including an Abu Simbel day trip from Aswan, can be arranged on request.

Concerto Nile Cruise

The Concerto Nile Cruise runs between Luxor and Aswan, offered as 3-night or 4-night full-board itineraries. Itineraries visit Karnak and Luxor Temples, the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut Temple, the Colossi of Memnon, Kom Ombo, Edfu and Philae. Edfu is reached by horse-drawn chariot, and Kom Ombo receives an extended stop for photography and study of the reliefs. Full-board accommodation onboard, private air-conditioned transfers, entrance fees and an English-speaking Egyptologist are included, with guide groups limited to eight guests.
