Accessibility
Who can join this
The vessel and shore excursions require moderate mobility. On board, cabins are reached by one or two short stair flights from the gangway at embarkation and between the sun deck, lounge bar and dining room; there is usually no elevator between multiple public-deck levels on smaller Nile cruisers. Shore excursions involve uneven ancient stone, steps at temple entrances and occasional sandy or cobbled approaches, plus short transfers via launch or tender at some sites. Wheelchair users with folding wheelchairs can usually be assisted on board with prior notice, but fully accessible cabins with roll-in showers are rare. If you require a wheelchair-accessible cabin, ramp access, or extra assistance, tell us when you book; we will confirm availability with the cruise supplier and Egyptologist. We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator and arrange meet-and-assist and any reasonable on-ground support, but we cannot guarantee supplier facilities beyond what is confirmed in writing.
Before you go
What to pack & wear
What to bring
- Valid passport and copy
- Comfortable walking shoes with grip
- Sun protection: wide-brim hat, sunglasses, SPF30+ sunscreen
- Lightweight daypack and refillable water bottle
- Loose cash in small Egyptian pound notes for tips and purchases
- Small flashlight or headlamp for uneven temple steps
- Any personal medication, with prescriptions
What to wear
- Lightweight, breathable clothing for hot daytime temperatures
- Covered shoulders and knees for mosques and some temples
- A light sweater or long-sleeve for cooler early mornings and evenings
- Flat, closed-toe shoes for archaeological sites
- Swimwear for the vessel pool; cover-up for public areas
Children & families
Children 0–5.99 years travel free; children 6–11.99 years pay 50% of the adult fare; children 12 years and older pay the full adult price. Children must share a cabin with their parents, maximum one child per cabin; two or more children require their own cabin. Cribs are limited and must be requested in advance; many cabins are compact so a stroller may be awkward to store on board. Please tell us ages at enquiry so we can confirm cabin suitability and any child extras such as meals or crib availability.

How we travel here
On the Nile we prioritise lower-impact suppliers and vehicle types where practical. The vessels we select are typically diesel-powered river cruisers with modern engines and on-board wastewater treatment; we request cruise partners follow local waste-segregation procedures and avoid open discharge into the river. Shore excursions use air-conditioned minibuses from local transport companies with licensed Egyptologists, and we favor operators who employ local guides and crew. We work with hotels, restaurants and suppliers in Luxor and Aswan that hire local staff and source produce locally when possible. Passenger water is provided in reusable dispenser bottles on board to reduce single-use plastic; guests are invited to refill personal bottles. If you have specific sustainability priorities such as low-emission transfers, locally sourced meals, or community visits, tell us at enquiry so we can confirm feasible options with the supplier.

Alyssa Nile Cruise
Alyssa Nile Cruise sails between Luxor and Aswan, calling at Karnak Temple, the Valley of the Kings, Kom Ombo, Edfu and Philae Temple. We arrange small-group cruises with English-speaking Egyptologists, full-board meals, airport and port transfers, and entrance fees for the listed sites. Groups are capped at eight participants, so visits are quieter and queuing times are typically shorter than on larger cruise programs. The itinerary includes a horse-drawn chariot visit to Edfu and a folkloric evening ashore. Optional excursions, such as Abu Simbel from Aswan, can be added.
