02Overview

A first look

At dawn the low sun tints the Giza limestone pale and cool, and the city noise falls away to a distant murmur as you stand near the pyramids. You will move between open-air monuments and the shaded alleyways of Cairo Old, tasting ful and mint tea, listening as our Egyptologists translate the hieroglyphs into clear, chronological stories that make sense on the ground.

We arrange every on-the-ground detail so the days unfold without logistical friction: private pick-up, door-to-door transfers, and a licensed Egyptologist with you throughout. We do not run group bus tours; every departure is private and paced to your interests, and your Egyptologist will suggest where to linger or move on.

Accessibility

Who can join this

The itinerary includes extensive walking on uneven surfaces, loose sand and ancient stone at the Giza Plateau and in parts of Old Cairo. Many sites have steps, low doorways and uneven cobbles; the Khufu pyramid interior involves narrow, steep passages that are not suitable for most wheelchairs or people with severe mobility impairment. Our private A/C vehicles can carry folding wheelchairs and there is step-up access into the coach; however kerbs and pavements around sites are often raised and irregular. We can provide a porter or an assistant on request, and we ask travellers with reduced mobility to tell us before booking so we can plan appropriate help. Entrance gates at major sites have security screening and occasional short waits, which may be difficult for people who cannot stand for long periods.

Before you go

What to pack & wear

What to bring

  • Valid passport with at least six months validity
  • Comfortable walking shoes with good grip
  • High-factor sunscreen and broad-brimmed hat
  • Reusable water bottle (we refill it at intervals)
  • Sunglasses and a lightweight scarf or buff for dust
  • Any regular medication, plus a small first-aid kit
  • Printed or digital copy of travel and emergency contacts

What to wear

  • Lightweight, breathable clothing for daytime heat
  • Long sleeves or a shawl for sun protection and mosques
  • Trousers or knee-length skirts for religious sites
  • Closed-toe shoes for archaeological sites and the pyramid plateau
  • A light layer for cooler evenings

Children & families

Children are welcome but the programme is physically demanding; we recommend a minimum age of five years for full participation in guided visits. Child prices usually apply for ages two to 11; infants under two travel free if not occupying a seat, but you must tell us at booking. Strollers are practical in parts of modern Cairo but are awkward on the Giza Plateau and in narrow bazaar alleys; a lightweight, foldable pushchair is best. Please tell us about any child-specific needs, because some sites require stair access or long periods of standing.

Responsible travel

How we travel here

We use private, air-conditioned sedans and minibuses that meet current Egyptian vehicle inspection standards, not open-top tourist buses. Where possible we deploy smaller cars for transfers in central Cairo to reduce fuel consumption and congestion. Our Egyptologists and drivers are locally contracted, paid local wages and booked directly through our Cairo office to keep revenue in the local economy. We encourage single-use plastic reduction by offering water-bottle refill stops and asking suppliers to limit disposable cups during lunches. We ask guests to respect restricted areas at archaeological sites to help preserve fragile stonework; entrance fees paid to Egyptian authorities support site maintenance and conservation. If you request it, we will arrange visits to community-run crafts projects rather than commercial souvenir outlets.

  • Licensed local Egyptologists

    ETAA-credentialed, on payroll

  • Fair wages on the ground

Drivers + guides paid above market

  • Site preservation

We follow MoTA visitor caps and no-touch protocols

  • Carbon-aware itineraries

Domestic flights only when train/road is impractical
